Premiere date of “The Devil Wears Prada” musical of Elton John is here!

A musical adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada” which will feature music written by Elton John is set to premiere next year. The lyrics of the musical is written by Shaina Taub.

Anna D. Shapiro (Tony-winning director) will adapt Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling book for the stage. The 2006 movie adaptation starred Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in lead roles.

The musical was announced in 2017 and will make its pre-Broadway world debut in Chicago on July 14, 2020. According to Deadline, it will play through August 16, 2020. 

Meanwhile, the details on the Chicago cast and the musical’s Broadway run are yet to be announced.

Also, the musical features all-new music by John. His other Broadway bona fides include The Lion King and Billy Elliot the Musical. In 2018.

Shaina Taub, while speaking to Deadline had said that she had written the first batch of songs for The Devil Wears Prada that summer.

Taub has praised  John in the 2018 interview. She said that he is an “incredible artist and so kind.”

The Devil Wears Prada follows protagonist Andy, a young writer who starts a job at a reputed publication in New York City under a “stylish yet terrifying boss”.
