Production is set to begin this summer
Walker Scobell, the young star from Netflix’s The Adam Project has landed a massive role! The 13-year-old will star as Percy Jackson in Disney’s upcoming adaptation of the Percy Jackson and The Olympians by Rick Riordan. Read on to find out more details.
About the Percy Jackson Series
The first season will adapt Riordan’s first novel, The Lightning Thief. We first got to see it adapted in the 2010 movie starring Logan Lerman as Percy. The movies were enjoyable, but never got to cover the whole thing. The novel is about the young demigod being accused of stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt. Percy and his friends have to across America to clear his name and maintain order on Mount Olympus.
Lerman played Percy brilliantly, but was still a bit old for the role. Percy is 12 years old, and Scobell fits the age better. His skill at comedy was also established in The Adam Project, an integral trait for Percy. We are now further waiting for the casting announcement for the other characters.
Riordan is working closely with Disney on the adaptations. If things go well, the other four novels will also get adapted. Riordan will write the pilot episode for the series along with Jon Steinberg. Steinberg will also be the showrunner along with Dan Shotz. James Bobin will direct the pilot episode. Executive producers include Shotz, Steinberg, Bobin, and Riordan along with Bert Salke, Rebecca Riordan, Monica Owusu-Breen, and Jim Rowe. They will be further joined by Gotham Group’s Jeremy Bell, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and D.J. Goldberg.
Shooting will begin on June 1, 2022. Meanwhile, Scobell can be seen next in Paramount’s Secret Headquarters, set to release on August 5.
