Netflix’s ‘The Alienist’ Renewed for Second Season. Daniel Brühl is Back as the Lead

Netflix and TNT’s period crime drama ‘The Alienist’ has been renewed for its second season. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Caleb Carr and is set in 1896 New York. It is a story about Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist who is investigating the murders of boy prostitutes by a serial killer. He is joined by a newspaper illustrator John Moore and Sara Howard.

The second season will be based on the novel’s sequel “The Angel of Darkness”. It will follow the same pattern as its predecessor, first airing on TNT and US TV then will be releasing on Netflix as a binge-worthy show. Its release date hasn’t been confirmed yet but it could land up somewhere this year.

The show is expected to bring back all the lead characters from the previous season. Daniel Brühl will be playing Dr. Laszlo Kreisler, Luke Evans will play John Moore, and Dakota Fanning will play Sara Howard. The character of Sara Howard taking a leap from being a secretary to being an investigator touched topics relating to women’s suppression, sexual harassment, and many others. These issues are expected to be explored more deeply in the next season.

The Primetime Emmy nominated show is praised for its relevance to the modern era and combining fact with fiction. Historical figures such as Theodore Roosevelt, who was a police commissioner from 1895 to 1897, have been included in its plot, giving it a sense of realism.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the second season’s trailer. Without a release date, it is difficult to assume when the trailer will be available. Let’s just hope that the new season will bring us some more particularly dark elements that we are fascinated by.
