It was in December 2018 that the show’s renewal was announced. The official Twitter page of The Last Kingdom was the medium to share this news. The new show will have 10 new episodes. Moreover, the Instagram page of the show teased the fans to join Uhtred in his battle the next year. So most probably the show is going to hit the screens in 2020. So the battle continues. Let’s see what the show has for us in store.
The show will be set in the 9th century AD. As mentioned earlier, the series will be based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories. Each of the seasons follows the events from two of its books. The hero Uthred is brought up by the Danes. But later, Uhtred betrayed the Danes, and they believed that he was the murderer of his adoptive father. He was then forced to move to Wessex. It was the only Kingdom out of the seven which wasn’t under Danish control. There he assists the Wessex King by sharing his knowledge of Dane’s battle strategies.
The next book that is adapted for season 4 of the series is Pagan Lord. It has taken the story a decade ahead. There will be fresh faces in the upcoming season. It includes Gisela and Uthred’s children, who will be shown as grown-ups. The season will show Uhtred challenging his uncle Aelfric, but no revelation of any further detail is made yet.
