‘Minecraft’: Jason Momoa to Star in Live-Action Video Game Movie

Will it be pixelated?

Another video game is receiving a live action adaptation, and this time it’s Minecraft! The massively popular game is one of the few titles that we did not expect to get an adaptation. What’s more, Aquaman star Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to star in the live-action movie with Warner Bros.

We have very little information on what the movie is about. For those that are not familiar about the game, it is about mining, discovering new land, acquiring materials, building your own environment, and defeating enemies. Mainly, it is about building blocks. It is also famous for the pixel-looking square-shaped characters and surroundings. If Momoa is to star, will he end up looking all square as well? Will the story be set in a real world similar to the game, or will it be about people playing the game?

We do know that Jared Hess is on board as director. He is the director of Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite. Actually, the movie announcement dates back to 2014, and many directors were on board before leaving. We can understand that this will be an incredibly difficult game to adapt. Moreover, in recent times, we have seen Uncharted, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, and Sonice the Hedgehog with successful movie adaptations. But video game adaptations are always a tricky subject, so they will need to tread very carefully with this adaptation.
