The movie Bohemian Rhapsody was a big hit. It not only earned hundreds of millions all around the world but also got Rami Malek his first Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury. Moreover, Rocketman – a biopic about Elton John – was very much acclaimed as well. The critics loved the latter and so did fans.
An Elvis Presley Biopic Is In Works
So, there definitely seems to be a trend going on – movie biopics about the lives of music’s most influential artists. Jumping on the train is none other than Moulin Rouge’s director Baz Luhrmann. Luhrmann is all set to make a movie about The King himself – Elvis Presley.
He has roped in newbie Austin Butler as the star, Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley and Tom Hanks as Elvis’s manager Colonel Tom Parker.
Priscilla Presley Is Helping Out
What’s more, the director has even enlisted the help of Priscilla for his movie. According to US Weekly, the two have been frequently meeting up to discuss Elvis and the movie. Priscilla told the magazine that she wants to be very much involved with the biopic.
The untitled movie is said to be centered around Elvis’s relationship with his manager Tom Parker.
Lisa-Marie Presley Doesn’t Like The Project
Still, there is one person who is not at all happy with Luhrmann’s project. Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa-Marie Presley is worried about how the movie is going to turn out. And more specifically, how the audience will react to it. Lisa-Marie is also not delighted with Priscilla’s involvement. Elvis famously met Priscilla when she was only 14-years-old and started courting her despite a ten years age difference.
They married when she turned 21 and a year later, Lisa-Marie was born. She believes that this might invoke anger against her late father. The relationship between young Priscilla and Elvis was controversial in its own time. But after the MeToo movement, she believes the legendary singer might get removed from his throne as The King.
