The fair was initially organized in 1816 but became an official fair from 1902 onwards. The Kentucky State Fair did not always take place in Louisville. It moved throughout the state, from city to city and finally settled in the Kentucky Exposition Center permanently. The two weeklong fair draws in around 600,000 visitors each year.

The Kentucky State Fair is famous for its fried chicken. However, that is not all. The fair boasts of a wide variety of food and drinks, including the Kentucky bourbon. The fair also features roller coasters, and other amusement park attractions. The state of Kentucky also celebrates its bluegrass music and baseball bats in the fair. The biggest crowd draw is however for the World Championship Horse Show, where 2000 elite saddlebreds from around the state and the world, compete for a huge cash prize.
