“This isn’t about me, it’s about helping someone,” Justin Bieber says in the first episode of docuseries.
The much-anticipated docuseries, ‘Justin Bieber: Seasons’ officially premiered on YouTube Originals on Monday, 27th January, with the first four episodes being available on the streaming platform. And going by the episodes that we saw, we can safely say the wait was worth it for Beliebers who have been waiting for this new venture from their 25-year-old idol. As the name indicates, the series is based on several seasons of Justin’s life which he will share with his fans through this digital venture.
The Yummy singer has talked much about his life and changes that came and he embraced post the release of his album, ‘Purpose’ in 2015. After a brief monologue from the singing sensation, the released four episodes take us into several aspects of his life including his wife, Hailey, his struggle, his domestic life, and cutting and rehearsing some music pieces.
The First Episode
In the very first episode of the docuseries titled “Leaving the Spotlight”, Justin opens up about his life after abruptly cancelling the remainder of his Purpose World Tour in 2017, his fight to return to music and account of his closed ones who saw him struggle daily.
The first episode flashes back to May 2019 with the words “9 months until album release” appearing underneath it, which certainly means that release of new JB’s music album after a hiatus of 4 years is happening, and happening very soon, maybe by February itself. Prior to seasons release, he had dropped some hints with the dates, January 27, 28, 29, and February 14.
Towards the end of the 11-minute episode, Justin talks about the changes in his life which included “getting married, getting back to the studio, being creative and happy” in doing what he is doing. He continued that many times he used to make music only for himself, which he realises now that by doing so he wasn’t properly utilizing the gift, he was bestowed with, for right reasons.
“This isn’t about me,” he added, “it’s about helping someone who’s going through whatever they’re going through and being able to talk about that thing,” which he says is a cool way to look at what he does.
Inspiration to Return
The performance during the annual music festival at Coachella in 2019 with his friend, Ariana Grande, acted as a catalyst in his return to music.
His friend, Ryan Good narrates that the success of his act really pushed him as that was the moment when Justin knew that he wants to get back in the studio and cut new tracks. And contrary to the popular opinion, Justin wasn’t ready at all to be on the stage that time, as revealed by Good, it was his good friend and manager, Scooter Braun, who believed it was the perfect opportunity for him to know and see again who Justin Bieber really is!
And voila, Braun was right.
Back to the Place Where He Belongs
The series divulged a few moments that everyone who has been a fan of JB music was yearning to see; him in his studio, recording songs.
In one scene, Justin jams out to a new song with his wife, Hailey, and the end of the first episode finishes with another unreleased R&B track, which we hope to hear soon.
The episodes that followed took us deeper into his craft as he previews more unreleased tracks for fans from his studio, one of which says, “Sometimes it feels good to cry.”
Another scene from the series showed us groovy Justin from his studio as he was listening and singing the playback of a loved-up track on which he sings, “Where you going?”
And that is not all, Justin isn’t leaving any stone unturned to make his return album mammoth as he might show off his bilingual skills. He was seen recording an energetic song, “La Bomba.”
Bieber admitted that he doesn’t speak Spanish, but singers are good at imitating, so he just listens and repeats after it.
Love of His Life
His wife is a bigger part of his upcoming album and inspiration behind his relentless work that went into the album. Hailey appears several times throughout the episodes. In her solo bits, she admits that she loves watching her husband doing what he does best even if it would mean laying till wee hours of the morning, binge-watching tv shows and just being around him because that’s where her home is.
We even get a glimpse of their domestic life as we see Hailey taking care of Justin, giving him his medications and zipping up the hyperbaric oxygen chamber where he naps.
There are two songs in the album dedicated to Hailey which are inspired by her. “Keep on Forgiving Me,” is inspired by her limitless patience with Bieber. He confessed later that Hailey forgives him every time he does something stupid. Gushing about her, he added that she is the only one, he thinks, who can put up with him.
And there is another love song, Justin’s favourite from the album, “Habitual,” that had lyrics, “My love for you is habitual.” Sweet, right?
He also confessed that he loves having Hailey around him in the studio but it also becomes nerve-wracking at times because he loves her so much that he wants her to like his work, which makes him nervous.
Friends Unchanged
The feature, “Making Magic,” showed that none of Biber’s close-knit people have changed. His inner circle still composes of same people he had his longest association with as per Scooter Braun.
The 10-part docuseries is available on YouTube with 4 episodes already out. Go, check it out.
