The series will be about the unification and colonization of Hawaii, from the perspective of its population. It will have Doug Jung as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Momoa, Sibbett, Jenno Topping, Peter Chernin, Erik Holmberg, and Francis Lawrence.

This marks his second team-up with Apple after See. The futuristic series showed a version of humanity that is born blind. However, Momoa’s character gets blessed with the special ability to see and must protect the rest of his tribe from enemies.

Variety first reported that Momoa will also be acting in the series. Details on his character are unknown, but it is safe to assume that the Hawaiian actor will play a member from the native population. Chief of War will certainly be a passion project for the star, as he has publicly protested for his island nation. Momoa had brought awareness against the use of plastics, and also against construction projects in Hawaii.

This is certainly not the actor’s first writing gig. Momoa had previously co-written for the 2014 thriller film, Road to PalomaChief of War has received an order for eight episodes, and Justin Chon (Blue Bayou) is in negotiations to direct the first two episodes.

We will soon receive more information on producers, directors, and the rest of the cast.
