It seems that PewDiePie’s weird ocean obsession might be darker than you think

Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, who is  better known as PewDiePie, is a Swedish YouTuber. He is  well known for his Let’s Play videos and comedic formatted shows. His channel was the most-subscribed channel on YouTube for more than five years from 2013 to 2019.

He has uploaded three Subnautica videos in one week. He has a well-documented obsession with the ocean.

There are chances that Felix likes the ocean because it was the thoroughfare of European colonialism.

PewDiePie, who is YouTube’s most popular gaming content creator is sure to have an ocean fixation.  He has uploaded three videos in one week featuring “Subnautica.”

It is very clear that Felix has an obsession with the ocean, fish, and aquariums. He  had already taken his wife to an aquarium in Canada, and three months later they made a visit to the same aquarium for Valentine’s Day this year. Making Minecraft videos about the sandbox game’s fish and oceans is his passion.

Recently PewDiePie took the fish obsession to a  YouTube upload on Mar 24 , “15 Men vs 5 Women is Cringe.”  In the video, Pewds watches and comments on a video in which 15 men speed date 5 women in person. The ladies seem to be commenting that ,the worst thing a guy can have on his dating profile is a man with a fish.

PewDiePie reacts, by asking, what is wrong with a guy and fish?  But the truth is that it’s not just fish that Felix loves. Through his non-stop Subnautica playing this month proves that like a pirate, his true love is the sea.

But is there any reason for his obsession to the sea?

May be the constant ocean imagery is Felix’s homage to racist European colonialism and imperialism.
