The Fantastic Four are finally coming home. In 2019, Disney bought the characters from 20th Century Fox means that Marvel will now own the rights to the characters from the X-Men, as well as the Fantastic Four series. These rights were sold by Marvel in the late ’90s to avoid bankruptcy.
Now that these characters are part of Marvel Cinematic Universe, When can we expect a movie of this character? These characters returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a great thing for the fans. It’ll be interesting to see how these characters will be introduced in future movies.
Fantastic Four is a team of four fictional superheroes featured in Marvel Comics appeared in four live-action films. The story revolves around four main characters, namely Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm and features how these heroes adapt to the superpowers they attain.
Constantin Film purchased the film rights for the characters in 1986. In 2004, Constantin sub-licensed the film rights to 20th Century Fox. The first Fantastic Four movie was launched in 2005. The sequel Fantastic Four known as Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was released in 2007. Both the first and second parts of Fantastic Four received mixed to negative reviews from critics. Due to 20th Century Fox’s disappointment with the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, a potential third Fantastic Four film was cancelled.
In 2009, the third part of Fantastic Four was released on August 7, 2015, which received negative reviews from both critics and public. A sequel was scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017, but it was cancelled.
Future of Fantastic Four
In March 2019, when Disney bought most of the 20th Century Fox’s character rights, Marvel Studios regained the film rights to Fantastic Four. That means now the Fantastic Four movies will be created by Marvel Studios. At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced that a Fantastic Four film, which will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is under development.
