Remember 2009 Video Music Awards when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video? Well, Taylor Swift recently shared an old diary entry of that day, September 18, through which we get a sneak peek into what happened that day, especially backstage.
Taylor Swift who recently released her seventh studio album, “Lover” this Friday and the deluxe version of the album has photocopied pages from her old diaries. One of the pages opens about her romantic relationship with Joe Alwyn and the other entry deals with what had been a decade long feud with Kanye West.
The 19-year-old’s diary entry reads, “Let’s just say, if you had told me that Kanye West would have been the number one focus of my week, the media, and my part in the VMAs, I would’ve looked at you crossed-eyed.” She wrote how she had not expected to win the award she was nominated for, that night. “And if you had told me that one of the biggest stars in music was going to jump up on stage and announce that he thought I shouldn’t have won on live television,” she continued, “I would’ve said, ‘That stuff doesn’t happen in real life.’ Well… apparently… it does.”
The album entries also include a page from August 2016, when the Swift-West feud escalated with West name-dropping Swift in his song, “Famous,” lyrics to which Taylor pointed out to be ‘misogynistic.’ Kim Kardashian also entered the feud when she shared videos of a phone call between West and Swift and confirmed that Taylor had been contacted for her approval. The singer-songwriter wrote down, “This summer is the apocalypse.,” on August 29, 2016.
