Solution
The answer to today’s Wordle is SPRIG. Here’s a breakdown of the solution and how to get it:
The answer starts with S, so combined with the hints above you should now have all the clues you need to get the answer and not break a Wordle streak.
OK, it’s now time to scroll down for the answer…
So, what is today’s Wordle answer for game #1,297? Drumroll, please — it’s SPRIG. Hello Wordlers. A moderately tricky one today, given SPRIG isn’t a hugely common word, and only contains one of the five most common Wordle letters (‘R’).
I began with ORATE, which found said letter and turned it yellow. That wasn’t hugely helpful, with WordleBot telling me that I still had 48 possible answers to choose from.
WordleBot’s best Wordle start words fared better. CARTE and CARET left 32 answers, while TROPE lowered that to 18. If you opened with SPLIT, only the right answer would have been left over.
I try and use a combination of ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’ and ‘C’ on my second turn, and I had plenty of space to do that today.
In the end, I opted for LURID in order to try both remaining vowels. It was a solid move.
Both ‘R’ and ‘I’ turned green, leaving just four possible answers, according to WordleBot*. As you’ll see from the footnote, none of these were particularly obvious, so it’s no surprise that I ended up with the most common.
I typed in SPRIG to complete the puzzle in three moves. Hopefully you did well today, Wordlers. See you tomorrow.
* These were: SPRIG, SCRIM, MIRIN and SCRIP.
Yesterday’s Wordle Answer
Reading this in a later time zone? The Wordle answer for game #1,296 was CYBER.
Hello Wordlers. For the third time in four days, today’s Wordle answer starts with ‘C’. This one felt a bit tougher than CHOSE and CHEAP, and I only managed to get CYBER in five moves.
I began with ORATE, which contains all five of the most common Wordle letters. That turned both ‘R’ and ‘E’ yellow, but still left me with a massive 141 possible answers to choose from, going into my second turn.
WordleBot’s best Wordle start words were, of course, better than that. TRACE leaves 22 answers, while TABLE lowers that to 18. If you opened with CARET or CRANE, only 12 options would be left in play.

Who Invented Wordle?
Software engineer and artist Josh Wardle created Wordle during the COVID-19 lockdowns with his partner Palak Shah.
He studied media arts at Royal Holloway, University of London, then earned a Master of Fine Arts in Digital Art.
Josh worked at Reddit and Pinterest before Wordle became a global sensation.
The game’s title is a play on Josh’s last name.
According to The Verge, Josh revealed he had originally considered calling the game “Mr. Bugs’ Wordy Nugz.”
“This is true: I was going to call ‘Wordle,’ Mr. Bugs’ Wordy Nugz,” he previously shared during an on-stage presentation.
“Had I called the game Mr. Bugs, I like to think it would not have been successful.”
While developing the prototype for Wordle, Josh only showed it to close friends and family.
“I was trying to do something that was authentic to me. I was trying to build something for someone that I loved,” Josh previously explained, according to The Verge.
“It just so happened a bunch of other people loved it.”
Josh advised other innovators to follow their own paths and avoid replicating an invention like his.
“Don’t try to make ‘Wordle.’ Make the thing that you’re passionate about that is meaningful to you,” he suggested.
“And then everything else will follow from that.”
