Gentefied: After the Official Cancellation at Netflix, Is the Multi-lingual series Moving to a New Platform? Details Below

Gentefied Cancelled after 2 Seasons

The series ‘Gentefied‘ was cancelled by Netflix after releasing the two seasons. The series was loved by many people and now they are heartbroken because there will be no other season. Produced by American Ferror, the series was a comedy-drama about Mexican cousins living in America. The show was launched in 2020 with season 2 releasing in November last year.

After the release, the series did not appear in Netflix Top 10, and to remind you that Netflix’s cancellations were all based on the views, not on costs. Subscribers had criticized for more cancellations than renewals. But Netflix has the renewal rate of scripted series that has two or more seasons has stayed in line with other streaming channels and industries. (Netflix 60%, HBO 67%, CBS 70%)

The Story

In ‘Gentefied, the story revolves around three Mexican-American cousins who faced gentrification, borders, babies, and family separation while saving their grandpa’s taco shop. These brothers chase the American Dream even when they realize that the dream that they were chasing will threaten the things and people they hold most dear.

Criticism on the Cancellation

Revealing news of the cancellation, fans showed their outrage and frustration on social media platforms. One of the fans tweeted that it’s often for them that people like them were shown on screens and was raised a Mexican in Wales. As they say that representation matters and it’s sad that Netflix keeps dropping such incredible Latino characters.

They were many comments which showed anger and unhappiness. One of them commented that #Gentefied portrayed the multi-national Latino immigrant experience that many people identified within their country. #RepresentationMatters.”

It’s a bit common now, how Netflix users display frustration and disappointment at the number of shows that got cancelled. We can hope for the kind of diversity, Gentefied represented it gets picked up by some other streaming platform.
