The creators of the hugely popular Game Of Thrones finally opened up on the infamous coffee cup scene.
This started when a particular scene from the final season’s fourth episode, The Last Of The Starks, aired.
A shot, which featured a coffee cup from Starbucks divided viewers.
Meanwhile, the creators David Benioff and DB Weiss joked about the scene. They said that when it comes to Persian rugs, it is ‘tradition’ to ‘make a mistake’.
David, while speaking to Japan’s Star Channel said that when Persian rugs are made, it’s a tradition that you make a mistake, and since “only God can do anything perfect, it (the cup) was our mistake.” To which, Dan joked that this is the reason they put the coffee cup there. He added that this was the “Conscious, concerted statement of our imperfection”.
Furthermore, David revealed what actually transpired and why the cup was left there. He said that the crew was so focused on Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) that they completely forgot it was there.
Also, he admitted that initially, it was an ‘embarrassment’, and they were astonished how no one noticed the cup. But he later found it ‘funny’.
However, the last season of Game Of Thrones received a mixed response from critics and fans. Still, the show has managed to grab 32 Emmy nominations. Therefore, DB admitted that it was ‘surprising’ to hear the nominations.
In addition to that, he expressed his happiness for the nominations since the crew worked hard, as they had witnessed it “for many years.”
