Fans will decide for Oscars
It is that time of the year. Oscars, one of the most prestigious film award ceremonies are just around the corner. This time with a “fan favorite” category. The academy announced on Monday that now, even the fans can vote for their favourite film for the Oscars. From Monday onwards, fans can vote for the film they want by using the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite. It doesn’t matter weather the film is nominated or not. The film to receive most votes by March 3 will be the winner.
Perks for the Voters
Not just that, the academy will select three random voters from twitter to present an award at the 2022 Oscars. This partnership between the Academy and Twitter will prove to be really exciting for the fans. This will certainly allow the fans to be a part of the culture. Meryl Johnson, VP digital marketing at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared her excitement about the involvement of the digital audience.
Last year, the Oscars noted an immense drop in it’s ratings. This year is noticing a similar trend as well. This could very well be a way to attract more eyeballs. Back in 2019, the Academy had a similar idea to be able to feature more mainstream films. However, this idea received some harsh feedback and was dropped eventually.
More Mainstream Movies
Fans can also vote for their favourite scene using the hashtag #OscarsCheerMoment. The winning scene will be played at the award ceremony. In addition to that, five twitter voters will receive prizes. The fans are allowed to vote upto 20 times in a day. But this is not an official category at the Oscars.
This new category will certainly help the ratings this years. Get ready to see more mainstream films at the ceremony this year.
