Priyanka Chopra discusses pay parity
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a huge star, recently announced that she is finally earning the same amount as her male co-star in Hollywood. According to Priyanka, her new series “Citadel” will be the first in her 20-year film career in which she co-stars with Game of Thrones alumnus Richard Madden and earns the same salary as her male co-stars.
Priyanka’s Take On Pay Parity
Chopra Jonas claimed that, despite acting in roughly 60 films, she had never witnessed salary equity in Bollywood. She continued by claiming that the pay difference was significant and that many women still had to cope with it, adding that she used to earn roughly 10% of the compensation of her male co-actor. Additionally, she asserted that female actors in her generation had requested equal remuneration but were not granted it.
Chopra Jonas provided other examples of how she handled misogyny while working on Bollywood shows. She claimed that she thought it was acceptable to be seated on set for extended periods of time, whereas her male co-star took his time and chose when he wanted to arrive on set as when they would film.
She said although she believed she was probably slightly more skilled than her fellow performers who were lighter skinned, she was labelled “the black cat” and “dark,” which made her feel unattractive or like she would have to work incredibly hard.
Citadel
The “Avengers: Infinity War” directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s next series, “Citadel,” will be available on Amazon Video. Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden are among the entire cast. The movie is promoted as an “action-packed detective series” with a global setting and is meant to be the foundation for sequel series in nations including Mexico, India, and Spain.
