Cobra Kai, the beloved Karate Kid spinoff series, is getting a fifth season sooner than some fans probably imagined. Cobra Kai’s fourth season was released on the last day of 2021, however Netflix has already stated that Season 5 has been ordered and is nearing completion. After only a few months, the streaming service has teased us with some fresh footage and a debut date.
New episodes of the karate comedy-drama will premiere on Friday, September 9, according to a new teaser video, which shows Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) building the Cobra Kai empire while his old comrade John Kreese (Martin Kove) is unfairly serving time in prison.
Netflix stunned fans by uploading a complete teaser video and disclosing the Season 5 release date at the end of a Cobra Kai panel at Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

Cobra Kai’s fourth season concluded on a cliffhanger, with Cobra Kai winning the All-Valley tournament and driving Miyagi-Do out of business. Terry Silver takes full leadership of Cobra Kai (after framing Kreese) and expands to other locations throughout the valley in Season 5.

“When Daniel begins to form a bond with Miguel – who is one of Johnny’s most significant relationships and acts as a surrogate son in a way – Johnny begins to believe that this long-time opponent is maybe a new, better role model for Miguel to look up to instead of him.”

Season 5 will see Chozen return, following the epic alliance between the Karate Kid himself Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his foe Johnny Lawrence (Billy Zabka) (Yuji Okumoto). The teaser also shows a meeting between Johnny and his son Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan), who set out to find Miguel Diaz in Mexico (Xolo Mariduena).
