The movie is based on the novel by Louis Bayard
Netflix‘s upcoming gothic thriller movie, The Pale Blue Eye has just announced its next set of cast members. The movie was announced almost a year ago, with Scott Cooper (Hostiles, Black Mass) as director. Christian Bale was already announced as the lead, and now he will be sharing screen space with Gillian Anderson, Timothy Spall, Fred Hechinger, Robert Duvall among many other talented stars.
The story
The movie is adapted from the 2006 novel of the same name by Louis Bayard. Cooper had been trying to get the movie made for almost a decade, and is finally moving forward with it.
The Pale Blue Eye follows a detective named Augustus Landor, and a young cadet who later came to be known as the famous gothic horror novelist Edgar Allen Poe. Bale will play Landor, a former New York City detective who comes out of retirement to solve a series of murders happening at the United States Military Academy, West Point, in 1830. Poe will be played by Harry Melling, best known for playing Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter movies.
Landor meets Poe, who is already a resident while solving the murder. Due to Poe’s curiosity and knowledge of the macabre, Landor forms a partnership to solve the case. But the closer they get to the truth, the more their partnership gets affected.
Is it based on a true story?
Yes, the events really did happen. Poe enlisted in the army at 18 to pay off gambling debts. This was around the same time that he began his writing career.
The Pale Blue Eye is expected to hit Netflix next year.
