Blockbuster gets cancelled
Netflix once again attacks on Blockbuster. Just after one season it got cancelled. It wouldn’t return with a new season as per the announcement on Saturday, December 17th, 2022.
As released last month, the highly anticipated show failed to attract much public. It didn’t even make it to Netflix Top 10 rankings in the U.S. Even after bringing finest actors like Melissa Fumero from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Randall Park from Fresh Off the Boat, Blockbuster couldn’t move forward. The series was released on Nov. 4, so we can expect that it wasn’t given all that much time.
According to reports, Netflix uses hours viewed as ratings metric, due to which comedies face disadvantage as their episodes are almost half the length of their drama. Before moving forward to the reports, do check the trailer below:
After watching the trailer its quite easy to understand that the show’s plot is based on the real-life Blockbuster, which was previously released in Bend, Orgeon. Talking about controversies, the show was one of the top topics for it and that is a sign why Netflix is left with only one Blockbuster.
Alex Maidy talks about the show in his review. He had high hopes in the beginning, but he shares that he couldn’t get excited about the series. He claims that Blockbuster was ‘dull’ and ‘generic’, which included no real laughs.
It was set as a project at NBC, to which he believed Blockbuster has the look and feel of last 30 years. “Despite the excellent series that pepper the resumes of writing staff, the series fails to take advantage of the freedom of being on a streaming platform” he said. Sharing the despair, Alex Maidy concludes.
