“Avatar: The Way of Water” is swimming globally
Before The Hobbit, which earned $37.1 million back on December 14, 2012, Avatar: The Way Of Water had earned $55 million Friday in 4,202 theatres, including its $17 million Thursday previews. Although some estimates predict $120 million for the weekend, they are unable to account for pre-sales or the behavior of those early ticket revenues.
If Avatar 2’s $150 million forecast isn’t met, it’s likely because moviegoers are holding out for the top-rrated tickets, which might not become available until after this weekend. It’s difficult to find IMAX, Dolby, or PLF seats for this weekend in places like New York and Los Angeles. While IMAX, Dolby, and the flagship PLF have plenty of 3D showtime for Avatar 2, the US market is underdeveloped, particularly in terms of interest. Critics’ Response to the Movie
However, audience reactions are out of this world for Avatar: The Way of Water, with 5 stars, 91%, and 82% certain recommendations, based on a survey by comScore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak. Critics may have reduced it to a 79% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Any studio would want those ratings. 89% of the audience consisted of general people, 5% were parents, and 6% were youngsters under the age of 12.
In terms of performance, men outperformed women 59% to 41%. The age group 18-34 accounted for 61% of last night’s ticket sales. 14% of those in attendance were over 45. The population was under 25 in 41% of cases. 35% of attendees were white, 29% were Latino or Hispanic, 15% were Asian, and 13% were black. The shows will change over the course of the weekend.

The original avatar In 2009 had midnight screenings and made $3.5M, resulting in a $26.7M opening Friday and a $77M three-day record. Imax screens, which at the moment had only 179 states listed, brought in $9.5 million, or 12.4% of their inaugural weekend’s revenue.
