Sadie Sink was almost not chosen as Max Mayfield
Sadie Sink’s portrayal of Max Mayfield on “Stranger Things” has received huge popularity and global acclaim. However, the show’s creative team initially seemed to had some surprising inhibitions about her.
Sadie initially appeared on our screens as Max in season 2, when she moved from California and settled in Hawkins. Quickly drawn into the Upside Down antics, she ultimately joined the party, grew close to Eleven, and began dating Lucas. Max is now one of the show’s most well-liked characters as a result of Sadie.
But if Sadie hadn’t “begged” producers to give her the part, things might have turned out quite differently. Sadie was first rejected for the part of Max because it was thought that she was “too old” for the part.
The actor recently talked in detail about her audition for the season 2 of the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things, in an interview with Fashion magazine. Sadie Sink was only 14 at the time, but she admitted in the interview that casting directors had initially warned her she was too “aged” for the role.
Sink wasn’t deterred though; she said that playing Max felt “correct” to her.
When Max first moved to Hawkins, she would have been about 13 years old, and the casting directors first believed she looked “too old” to play Max in Stranger Things 2. Season 2 debuted when Sadie was 14 years old.
Sadie admitted, “I basically pleaded and pleaded with them to give me additional footage so I could show them something new.
In order to present them with something new, she added, “I basically implored and begged them to give me additional stuff.”
Despite the reservations, chemistry read with Dustin Henderson played by Gaten Matarazzo and Lucas Sinclair played by Caleb McLaughlin, was ultimately selected by the producers to test the dynamics of Sadie with the cast.

At the time of her “Stranger Things” audition, Sadie Sink, now 20 years old, was hardly a newcomer to acting. The actress from Texas made her Broadway debut in the 2012 version of “Annie” before making the transition to television with a cameo appearance on the FX series “The Americans” the following year. She turned 20 in April 2022, while her co-stars Finn Wolfhard and Gaten celebrate their respective 20th birthdays in September and December. The oldest person, Caleb McLaughlin, will turn 21 in October 2022.
She appeared as Ziggy Berman in the 2021 installment of the “Fear Street” horror film series. She will be paired with Brendan Fraser in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” this fall.
Sadie Sink discussed the unanticipated difficulties of having spent the majority of her adolescent years in the spotlight in another section of her Fashion interview.
The actress said, “The ‘Stranger Things’ cast and I are all in such a bizarre and peculiar circumstance because the public knows who our characters are but we’re still trying to figure out who we are as humans.” “In my opinion, working in the industry helps you mature more quickly. But for the most part, it’s simply so enjoyable because everyone on the cast is experiencing it together.
