DeVayne had been battling pneumonia for a week
Chi Chi DeVayne, who became famous after her appearances in “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” has died at the age of 34 after being hospitalized with pneumonia.
DeVayne was the drag persona chosen for Zavion Davenport had also been in the hospital in July after a suspected kidney failure. DeVayne was diagnosed with scleroderma long back, which is a condition where the body’s immune system attacks organs, blood vessels and tissues.
DeVayne informed her fans through Instagram on August 15 that she was back in the hospital, and asked them for their prayers, saying, “I’ll be back soon.”

RuPaul, the television personality for which “Drag Race” is named, said that DeVayne will be remembered for her loving personality. “I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all. On behalf of VH1, World of Wonder and the cast and crew of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ I extend my deepest sympathy- from our family to hers.
She had been receiving messages from her huge fan following and friends as well. Drag queen Trixie Matteo was one of them and posted a picture of the two captioning, “an iconic queen literally everyone in our industry will always love.”
DeVayne had wanted to become a star from a very young age and did talent shows and trained in gymnastics. She earned great appreciation on the eighth season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ and got fourth place. Her entrance for the eighth season was also iconic as she wore a dress made from a trash bag.
