Zegler will be starring as Lucy Gray Baird opposite Tom Blyth
Rachel Zegler, the breakout star of Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story has officially been casted in a major role! She has been casted as Lucy Gray Baird, the female lead in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel film of The Hunger Games. The news was announced by official producer Lionsgate on Tuesday. About The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Ballad is set in the world of the Hunger Games. It takes place roughly 64 years before the original story centered around Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence. It tells the story of the 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, who would eventually become the tyrannical ruler of the nation of Panem, and the main villain who Katniss faces. We will see Rachel Zegler starring opposite Tom Blyth, known for Billy the Kid. Blyth will be playing President Snow, and his casting was announced earlier this month.
In the main story, we see Donald Sutherland as President Snow, and he reprised the role in all four movies. He was the one who started the brutal annual tradition where representatives from 12 districts of Panem are selected for a fight to the death across various televised survival challenges.
Rachel Zegler And Her Roles
Francis Lawrence, the director of three Hunger Games movies will return for Ballad. He spoke about Rachel Zegler, saying he knew she was a star as soon as he saw her in West Side Story. She will be apt for playing Lucy Gray, who is an independent, defiant, yet vulnerable, emotional, and loving character. Meanwhile, Rachel Zegler is currently busy with Disney’s live action Snow White.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds will release worldwide on November 17, 2023.
