The Origin of Lady Croft
Lara Croft, a.k.a. Lady Croft, is a fictional character appearing as the main protagonist of the video game series, “Tomb Raider”. The character was created by Toby Gard as a part of a team at Core Design. In 1996, the character made its debut in the video game “Tomb Raider”. Briefly, Lara is show as an intelligent and athletic archaeologist who travels into ancient tombs while facing deadly traps around the world. Nevertheless, Lara’s character quickly became a fan favourite.
And now, Lara is considered to be one of the best gaming protagonists of all time. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the “Tomb Raider” franchise. And in order to celebrate. Earlier this year, it was announced by Crystal Dynamics that a “Tomb Raider” anime will be coming to Netflix.
Lara Croft Is Back
The news about the upcoming anime series got the fans of the character excited. Furthermore, Crystal Dynamics also reveal that the anime will be set after the events of “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”. The games have been rebooted twice and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” is a part of the recent rebooted series.
It was also revealed that Tasha Huo, who is working on “The Witcher: Blood Origin”, currently. Also, he will write and executive produce the upcoming anime.
Recently, Tasha Huo gave some details about the upcoming anime. Huo reveal that the first season will consist of 8 episodes which will be 22 minutes long. It is not yet confirmed whether Camilla Luddington, who provided the voice and motion capture of Lara in the games, will return or not.
In addition, no further information about the release date or a trailer were given. But it is still expected to release sometime around summer 2022.
From “Miss Croft” To “Lady Croft”
After the release of “Tomb Raider: Underworld” in 2008, Crystal Dynamics began working on a new game. Instead of a sequel they decided to completely reboot the series. The team wanted to reinstate Lara’s origin with this reboot. And the first game for the reboot series was released in 2013, titled “Tomb Raider”, which showed a young & brash Lara out on her first expedition after graduation. From there to “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”, the character of Lara has matured and learned a lot.
The whole trilogy was about Lara Croft going from a college grad to a survivor to finally becoming the veteran Tomb Raider fans know and love. “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” ended with Lara finally at home, taking a break from raiding tombs. And the anime series will continue right after the events of the game. Taking the audience on Lara’s next adventure.
