The new season comes after three original movies
We have new information on the second season of Made in Abyss. The series began in 2012 and told the story of young Riko trying to save her mother. Her mother was a famous abyss diver, but did not return after one such trip. Riko follows in her footsteps and descends the abyss that only gets worse the deeper you go.
And now, the second season has finally been announced.

Season two is titled, The Golden City And The Scorching Sun. All the original voice actors will return. This includes Miyu Tomita as Riko, Mariya Ise as Reg, and Shiori Izawa as Nanachi. The series was one of the biggest hits when it came out, and the movies drew in viewers further. The movies are available for streaming, titled Journey’s Dawn, Wandering Twilight, Dawn of the Deep Soul. Aside from that, a 3D role-playing game called Binary Star Falling Into Darkness also came out. The first season will soon become an exclusive on Amazon Prime Video, so we can expect season two to follow suit.
Ahead of the season’s premiere, the official Twitter account for the anime released a brand new poster.
Story and Release Date
Riko is the daughter of White Whistle Lyza the Annihilator. Her dream is to become an explorer like her mother and go deep into the Abyss to find its secrets. Since she is just a novice Red Whistle, she can only go till the upper layer. On one such trip, she comes across a robot that looks like a young boy. She names him Reg and asks him to tag along on her adventures.
The second season will air sometime in July 2022.
