Robin Robin Directors and Aardman Animations
The directors of Robin Robin, a British stop motion animated musical Dan Ojari and Mikey Please discussed the short film. The movie is produced by Aardman Animations, the Oscar nominated animation studio. They were nominated for “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit”, for best animated feature and “Creature Comforts,” “A Close Shave and The Wrong Trousers”. Ojari and Mikey shared that Aardman Animations served as an inspiration for them while growing up.
It meant a lot for the duo to work with Aardman. They even had the honour to receive advice from Nick Park, the director of “Wallace & Gromit”.
Robin Robin Plot
The film centres a Robin bird, raised by a family of mice. As she grows up, her differences with the family are evident. She plans a heist at a human’s house. In order to prove her to her parents. In her quest to prove herself, she finds that she is different. That difference is what makes her wonderful. The film is about recognizing differences and everything that make “you you”.
The Voice Cast
The directors revealed that they worked on the script for years before presenting it to Aardman Animations. They met Sarah Cox, creative director of the Studio at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The voice cast includes Richard E. Grant. Gillian Anderson is the villain and since she was working on “The Crown” at the same time. She “channelled some of the Iron Lady”. Adeel Akhtar and Bronte Carmichael were part of the voice cast as well.
The film released on Netflix on November 27, 2021 and also received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Even though it did not do extremely well commercially. Aardman’s and Netflix will collaborate for the sequel of “Chicken Run”.
