‘Blade Runner 2099’ Series Coming To Prime Video With Ridley Scott As Producer

A new chapter of Blade Runner is coming to streaming platforms in the coming years. The famous sci-fi franchise has found a home in Amazon Prime Video, and will be titled Blade Runner 2099. It will be a limited series and shows new chapters in the Runner universe.

Ridley Scott, the director of the 1982 original starring Harrison Ford is on board Blade Runner 2099 as an executive producer. Silka Luisa (Shining Girls) will be an executive producer as well as the showrunner. Michael Green, part of the sequel starring Ryan Gosling, will be part as an executive producer. Amazon Studios’ head of global television Vernon Sanders spoke about their excitement in bringing the iconic franchise to Prime Video subscribers. He called the original movie by Scott as one of the greatest and most influential sci-fi movies ever made. He added that the new team will be holding the intellect, themes, and spirit of the past movies.

The series will now serve as a sequel to the 2017 movie by Denis Villeneuve. The producers at Amazon and Alcon Entertainment are aware that the bar is set high and teased a new realm of storytelling. Scott had spoken about the project in November 2021, around the time when the Adult Swim animated series titled Black Lotus aired. He said that they had already written the pilot for the series.

The other producing members of Blade Runner 2099 include Alcon co-CEO’s and co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, along with the head of Alcon head of television Ben Roberts, Cynthia Yorkin, Isa Dick Hackett, and Frank Giustra. They will be joined by Scott Free Productions’ David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, and writer Tom Spezialy.
