Downloading torrents has garnered damaging publicity for a long time. People are still confused if it is legal to use torrents. Also, the internet is filled with queries like “are torrent sites legal?”
When people talk downloading torrents, people generally need a reliable torrent search engine, and Pirate Bay is undoubtedly one of the most effective torrent search engines that have been around for a long time. However, the web site is highly controversial and has continuously troubled original content creators and copyright watchdogs. It is due to these reasons that sites such as The Pirate Bay have been banned in many countries like the UK, India, France, and Australia and the US.
The Pirate Bay, also known as TPB is a torrenting site for digital entertainment media and software. It was founded in 2003 by Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Svartholm of the Swedish think tank Piratbyrån. In April of 2009, the founders were found guilty in the Pirate Bay probationary in Sweden for supporting in copyright breach and were sentenced to serve one year in prison. Since 2012, “magnet links” are used rather than direct torrent files, separating TPB from the content that may be downloaded.
What are torrents? How do torrents work?
Torrenting debuted in 2001, thanks to a Python-language programmer, Bram Cohen, we got a chance to use this amazing technology.
A torrent is actually a very small file that only contains metadata about the files that are to be downloaded’. Torrent files don’t contain any data –it only contains information where that particular file is located. Here are three basic things you need to know when talking about torrenting: –
- Peers are users that are downloading or uploading files. This term refers to every member in a file-sharing (P2P – peer-to-peer) network.
- Seeders are those who have the fully downloaded files. Seeding the files means allowing other users to take bits of data from their computers.
- Leechers are the users who are currently downloading the file. They are taking small bits of data from seeders to complete the downloads.
Unblocking Pirate Bay
Since Pirate Bay is blocked in many countries these are the alternatives that you can use:-
1)Using Proxy Sites – If you are unable to visit The Pirate bay from your web browser, then you can use proxy sites. These proxy sites will redirect you to the original website from where you can download your favorite torrent content.
2) Use VPN– There a few countries where Pirate Bay has not been banned, you can use a VPN to open a site from one of these counties.
3)Other alternatives– There are other reliable sources like torrentz, kickass torrents, 1337x, RARBG, etc.
