It is an annual year-end event, which is excitedly watched by many people in the comfort of their homes while waiting to welcome the New Year. People turn on the television just to watch the Times Square countdown.
This show and Ryan Seacrest have become synonymous with the New Year celebrations. It was the 44th broadcast of the New Year show and 15th for Ryan who has been a part of this legacy for long. However, New Year brought some new changes in the show as well as Ryan’s longtime co-host Jenny McCarthy, 47, couldn’t be the part of this year’s celebrations.
For the first time in a decade, McCarthy skipped the annual event. She had announced the news 2 months before in October. And Ryan was joined by a new host for the 2020 edition. The 45-year-old artist looking dashing in his in a grey overcoat over a matching vest and black bow tie with black trouser welcomed the actress Lucy Hale, 30, to be a help him ring in the New Year on ABC from the New York City.
It was a live six-hour broadcast on Times Square culminating with the ball drop and countdown to next year. Talking about the show, Lucy said that she used to watch the show with her family every single year. Lucy previously hosted the celebration in New Orleans and replaced Jenny McCarthy as Times Square correspondent.
Talking about the show to The People, Seacrest said that he likes doing a live show, and Times Square is about as big as it can get on one night, with a million-plus people and rain or snow or sleet. The potential craziness is fun for him. He remembers watching the show on ABC as a kid, so to be able to host it is fun every year for him, he added.
