Reportedly, Marvel and DC are fighting over Keanu Reeves to rope him for their movies.
2019 has been Keanu Reeves’ year. The 55-year-old Matrix star delivered several hits and made the year count. Starting from a mighty act of an assassin in one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum to being the voice of a supporting character in another blockbuster, Toy Story 4 and finally, settling the year with a superb cameo in Netflix’s hit rom-com Always Be My Maybe where he played himself.
Marvel & DC’s conflict
The actor’s popularity that saw a huge surge with all the successes has brought him in a fix with two major studios, Marvel and DC. Reportedly, the two studios are entangled in a conflict over the actor as both of them are eager to sign the sensational Canadian actor, who has been everyone’s favorite in his 35-years-long career, for their respective upcoming projects.
As per the sources, Warner Bros. and DC are interested in roping Reeves back for the sequel of 2005 hit movie, Constantine. If this deal cements, then 14 years after the original movie, fans would be seeing Reeves playing the role of John Constantine, a cynic who possessed the ability to communicate with half-demons and half-angels in their true form, in the supernatural thriller. However, this deal could prevent him from joining the MCU and be a part of maybe something bigger and better.
Marvel Universe President, Kevin Feige has always been open about his keenness in making Reeves a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He had revealed previously that he talks with the Speed star all the time about new Marvel projects but they are yet to find a fitting role for him.
Which role would Reeves choose?
It’s not clear as to what choice will Reeves make if offered two mega roles from two mega studios. However, despite the conflict, he will keep himself busy with a very packed schedule ahead.
The internet’s favorite will be revisiting his past glory by reprising the role of the computer hacker, Neo in the sci-fi- action Matrix franchise’s upcoming fourth installment. He is currently wrapping up 1991 Bill & Ted Franchise’s sci-fi-comedy sequel Bill & Ted Face The Music where he is reprising the titular role, Theodore “Ted” Logan.
Irrespective of the winner of the tug-of-war between Marvel and DC, fans are up for huge treats in the form of all the Keanu’s movies that are lined up for them.
