Scarlett Johansson defends Woody Allen amid sexual assault allegations surrounding him.
While most of the Hollywood has distanced itself from the acclaimed American director, Woody Allen, post the emergence of sexual assault allegations against him, Scarlett Johansson defends him. In a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, the actress said that she believes him.
The interview published on Wednesday when the actress was queried about him, she stated that she loves Woody. She believes him and would work anytime with him. Scarlett Johansson shares a very close relationship with Woody Allen, with whom she frequently collaborated for projects like Match Point, Scoop, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
She further says that she sees Woody whenever she can, and she has had a lot of conversations with him about it, referring to the allegations. She has been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with her. Woody maintains his innocence, and she believes him, she added.
When #MeToo movement gained momentum in 2017, several women came out to speak about their ordeal against their molesters; one among them was Dylan Farrow, Woody Allen’s adopted daughter, she accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 7 during the early 90s. Woody had denied the allegations and was cleared of the charges after two months of investigation, however, Dylan, now an adult, continues to maintain her stance.
Post the assault charges against the director, actors like Griffin Newman, Rebecca Hall, and Timothée Chalamet, who worked with Woody Allen in projects said about donating their salaries from their projects with him to charities to help sexual assault survivors. Amazon too had pulled the plug of the distribution deal with Allen in 2018.
