Tyler Perry has been quite popular for his signature character Madea in the Madea series written and directed by Tyler Perry himself. The African American elderly Madea is described as smart and tough portrayed by the star. But maybe Madea didn’t create a special place in everyone’s heart, especially Spike Lee.

Spike Lee’s Insult over the Madea character

Recently, actor, Perry has been seen defending his signature character Madea against Spike Lee who had commented about the Madea character as a “coonery buffoonery” in 09’.According to Lee Spike Madea is a black American African who he thinks is cheap and creates a negative stereotype about the Black community. Whereas Tyler Perry gained a lot of success just by impersonating the character. He at least played part in 10 movies with Madea’s character.

A Honorary act

Tyler Perry said he had used Medea’s character to honor his mother and aunt “people who had made me who I am”. Tyler Perry spoke about Spike Lee’s insulting remark on Madea when he joined Chris Wallace on HBO Max Talk Show.

Tyler’s Comeback over the Spike Lee’s insult

Tyler said Wallace Medea is exactly “the PG version of my mother and my aunt, and I loved having an opportunity to pay homage to them.” He further added, “she would beat the hell out of you but make sure the ambulance got there in time to make sure they could set your arm back.” Perry told Wallace “For me, I’ve loved the movies that I’ve done because they’re the people I grew up with, that I represent.”

The Abusive Past

In a show on HBO, Tyler Perry told Wallace about the abuse he suffered as a kid at the hand of his father and about the three different family members who had raped him at the age of 10. Perry told the media that his mother’s love and support had only brought the success for him and helped him create his number 1 brand and not the abuse, rage, and anger.
