The series premieres on Prime Video tomorrow
Eight years after the end of The Hobbit trilogy, we are back in Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The beloved adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien’s fantasy novel will now be in the form of a televised series by Amazon Prime Video. With the series releasing tomorrow, let’s take a look at the review.
The Rings of Power Review
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power takes us to the Second Age of the grand mythology that Tolkien laid out. We notice straight away that the landscape is what we have grown up watching in the other movies, but with a new list of characters. Of course, there are some recognizable names, such as Galadriel and Elrond, played by Morfydd Clark and Robert Aramayo respectively. We get to explore the cultures of dwarves, men, elves, and hobbits. Galadriel and Elrond have achieved pillar status during the Fellowship, but over here, they are still young. She is a warrior, hell-bent on discovering the evil lurking in the shadows, while he’s a politician, aiding High King Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker).
In The Rings of Power, Sauron is believed to have been vanquished. Fans get to see the Noldorin elves, who are fully gone by the Third Age. We also see places like Lindon, Khazad-dûm, and the human island region of Numenor.
In Short
The effort put into the series by developers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay is impressive. The soundtrack by Bear McCreary plays nostalgic tunes. It’s refreshing to see Galadriel, who is a firebrand, before becoming the jaded version in the novels and movies. The one downside is that a lot is going on and it can get a little difficult to focus on everything because they all deserve care.
The Rings of Power debuts with two episodes on September 2.
