Charlize Theron to Produce ‘Aqualad’ Series for HBO Max

The story will be based on the graphic novel, ‘You Brought Me the Ocean

The next DC Comics character to get their own HBO Max show is Aqualad, aka, Jackson Hyde. But that’s not all. Mad Max: Fury Road star Charlize Theron will be one of the producers on the show. Read on to find out more.

About the New Aqualad

Aqualad
DC

Aqualad has had numerous interpretations in the past, but the most famous one so far has been Hyde. He first appeared in Brightest Day #4 in 2010. The new character was well-received, and became the inspiration for Kaldur’ahm in the Young Justice series. Both Aqualads are fan favourites, and are LGBTQ+ superheroes.

The series is most likely going to with Hyde as it was his story that inspired it. HBO Max will develop the series based on the 2020 YA graphic novel, You Brought Me the Ocean. The book was written by Alex Sanchez and illustrated by Jul Maroh. It tells the story of Hyde, a gay teenager looking for a way out of his desert life in New Mexico. But he soon falls in love with his high school swim captain. Meanwhile, he must also learn about the details regarding his father, Black Manta.

Makers Aside From Charlize Theron

The new series is described as a dramedy, and will very likely follow in the footsteps of Peacemaker. Aside from Theron, there are no details about the writers, producers, or stars for the show. We are yet to see if the series has any ties with Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. After all, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is the DCEU’s Black Manta, and we don’t know if he has an illegitimate son.

But we are far from the series, and will have Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to look forward to in the meantime.
