“No Time to Die” Editors Criticize the Academy After BAFTA Win
Tom Cross and Elliot Graham, the editors for the movie “No Time to Die” won the 75th BAFTA awards. After they won the award they also criticized the Academy for decision that they recently made. The reason behind this is that the the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ decided to remove eight different award categories. It also included the category for film editing, from the live telecast.
Why The Criticism?
During the BAFTA winners press conference, someone asked the editors of their opinion on this decision. To which both the editors expressed their disappointment. Graham said that “that’s not okay”. And that the Academy needs to think about it. Cross also said that he’s not a fan and this decision defeats the proceeding. They were unhappy even though they did not have a nomination at the Oscars
Dune Sound Team Also Spoke Up
Apart from this “No Time to Die” editor duo, a lot more people spoke their minds about this decision. The Sound team for Dune, who also won the BAFTA for the Best Sound also criticized this. The team includes Mac Ruth, Mark Mangini, Doug Hemphill, Theo Green and Ron Bartlett. They are currently in the running for the Oscar this month as well.
Last month, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ made the decision to remove several award categories from the live telecast. Instead they decided to present those categories outside of the live telecast through a letter from David Rubin, the president of the academy.
The award categories that they agreed on removing from the live telecast include Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Animated Short Film, Best Live-Action Short Film Best Sound, Best Documentary Short Subject, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Original Score.
