Nicolas Cage didn’t want any part in ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’
Nicolas Cage had a candid discussion regarding playing himself in the new comedy ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’. Directed by Tom Gormican, Cage will play a fictionalized version of himself in this action comedy.
Cage’s egocentric character will explore the vast ocean of his past roles and all eccentricities of it. However, the Oscar winning actor wasn’t very keen to play the role.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cage claimed that he turned down the role at least 3 or 4 times. He added that he was in fact offended when he first heard the conceit of the movie.
“I wanted no part of it”, said Nicolas Cage
A letter from Gormican did manage to win him over eventually. The Ghost Rider star shared that upon receiving the letter, he understood that the director wasn’t mocking ‘Nicolas Cage’ as a star. Gormican wanted to celebrate some of the actor’s most iconic moments. Those include the gold guns in Face/Off and being at the bottom of the pool in Leaving Las Vegas.
Cage was also initially concerned about the fact that the film will not represent who he really is as a human. But later on he felt the film will be like a love letter to his career.
When is ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ releasing?
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will pay homage to some of Cage’s epic performances but in a very unique way. The feel good adventurous movie will portray Cage in a dual role- one as himself and another as his occassional imaginary alter-ago “Nicky”.
Apart from the National Treasure actor, we see a stellar cast joining him including The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal, Afterparty’s Tiffany Haddish and Neil Patrick Harris from The Matrix Resurrection.
The comedy film is all set to premiere on March 12 at SXSW.
