Valhalla Review: After Battle of Stamford Bridge
Vikings: Valhalla season 1 dropped on February 25. The series followed a legendary Norse hero, Ragnar Lothbrok. And featured some really strong character arcs and story lines. The series is often compared with Game of Thrones, but the latter is certainly more talked about and did better commercially.
A spinoff to this series dropped on February 25 on Netflix. It is a sequel to “Vikings” and follows the story after Battle of Stamford Bridge. The spinoff starts off a 100 years after the original series.

Valhalla’s Plot
It follows he son of Erik the Red, Leif Erikson. Erikson reaches Kattegat, a place where Vikings congregate after the massacre. During this time, the friction between Vikings and the English royals are heightened. Leif Erikson and Freydis Erikson want revenge. As they arrive Kattegat, they realize that Aethelred II, in England ordered to kill all Danes. They need to work together in order to survive.
However, the show begins to pick up the pace halfway through the season. When the plot starts getting intricate and a bit complicated. Valhalla shares a lot of similarities with Vikings but does not have much substance to look out for.
Similarities With The Original and Performances
If you have seen Vikings before, you would notice a bunch of familiar names being mentioned. And also a lot of similarities between the characters of the two series. The dialogues seem quite ignorant and the show lacks any cultural knowledge as well.
The actors did a good job at reflecting the mood of the scenes. Frida Gustavsson, who plays Freydis and Sam Corlett who plays Leif delivered strong performances. And the cast fits well in the Viking aesthetic. If you are looking for a a strong story with a history lesson Valhalla is the series for you.
