Colin Firth and Toni Collette in “The Staircase”
HBO recently dropped the first looks for their upcoming drama The Staircase, starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette as a couple. The series will be based on a true crime story. The series will encircle Michael Peterson, an author, accused of his wife’s murder. His wife, Kathleen Peterson is found dead in their home inside a pool filled with blood.
The real Michael Peterson lived in North Carolina with his second wife. In 2003, he was convicted of killing his wife in 2001. He claimed that Kathleen fell into the pool after consuming alcohol. However, the autopsy said otherwise. The court gave him a trial 8 years later. In 2017, he filed a Alford plea to the court. The court sentenced him to a time he had served already. And was later freed.
The French Miniseries
Back in 2004, another French miniseries released of the same name revolving around Peterson’s trial. The Oscar- winning director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade directed this series. The series first premiered in 2005 at the Sundance Channel. In early 2010s, Lestrade filmed a few more episodes for Netflix.
Another series will be released this spring hailing from Warner Bros. And the limited series will stream on HBO. Antonio Campos and Maggie Cohn wrote the series. And also serve as executive producers. Warner Bros. ordered eight episodes for the series. Campos directed six of those episodes.
Star Studded Cast
Along with Firth and Collette, the series will feature Michael Stuhlbarg, Juliette Binoche, Dane DeHaan, Olivia DeJonge, Rosemarie DeWitt, Tim Guinee, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sophie Turner, Vincent Vermignon, Odessa Young, and Parker Posey. Annapurna Television co- produced “The Staircase”. The series will be a treat for those who enjoy a good crime drama. The series will release this year during spring on HBO max.
