The Standoff between Disney and Sony has created a mess, because of which the next “Spider-Man” film could be way different for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadline first reported the story. As per the reports, the two studios were unable to reach terms on a deal. The deal is supposed to give Disney a co-financing stake in future films.
Disney owns the rights to the character, but Sony has film rights. All thanks to deals set up before the Mouse bought Marvel in 2009. Sony Studio owns the lucrative merchandising rights for Spider-Man.
This brings us to the conclusion that Spider-Man might not make cameos in future MCU films or be a part of the Avengers, unlike the recent record-shattering “Avengers: Endgame.”
According to Variety, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” became Sony’s most successful film ever, which makes the situation more awkward.
Deadline reports that Tom Holland, and its director, Jon Watts, are expected to do two more “Spider-Man” films, but unlike 2017′s “Spiderman: Homecoming” and “Far From Home,” the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige won’t be the lead creative producer of those movies.
Disney asked that future “Spider-Man” films will have a 50/50 co-financing arrangement and that’s when the stalemate came. The studios are going to work out a similar deal on other films in the Spider-Man universe, such as the upcoming “Venom” sequel with Tom Hardy.
Sony suggested keeping the current arrangement, which gives Marvel 5% of gross box office revenue and Disney did not like that, and they reportedly walked away.
A Sony representative told HuffPost that the current impasse is only around the producer credit and those negotiations are still going on. He also said that Feige was involved in Sony’s previous Marvel films.
Everyone is waiting for Disney’s response to a request for comment.
However, Marvel fans had to say a lot on Twitter as they weren’t exactly excited.

It feels a little like Disney is hoping fan outrage will put enough pressure on Sony to cave to that 50/50 deal… pic.twitter.com/YdmGVm5rak

Sony has ruined THREE Spider-Man franchises.
They took control away from Raimi
They forced their universe down Webb’s throat
They pulled Spider-Man from the MCU
