The big update will go live on October 26
Doom: Eternal came out in March 2020, but didn’t have a Horde Mode. However, that situation is solved now as Bethesda finally revealed that the fight-until-you-die challenge goes live on October 26.
Cause for delay
The main reason why it didn’t roll out sooner was because it wasn’t even on development until just a few months ago. id Software initially intended to have a Dark Souls-style “Invasions” mode, which enables other players to jump into your game and pose as a powerful demon. But id Software cancelled the idea in July 2021, citing “the unforeseen consequences of the pandemic and remote working,” and started work on a single player horde mode.
The Invasion mode sounded very exciting, and definitely unique. Other players interrupting your gameplay and posing as a threat can cause some very intense and aggravating moments. However, the Horde mode works better for hardcore Doom players who just wants to rip and tear through demons even after completing the campaign.
Other changes
What’s also new is that the update will also bring big changes to the 2v1 Battlemode multiplayer mode. This includes the addition of a new arena and streak-based awards, and a new pair of Master levels. Further information will be given when the update goes live on October 26. But the community manager Joshua Boyle and game director Hugo Martin has shown the new Horde mode. The two streamed on October 21 at 7:30 pm ET on Twitch and YouTube.
Doom Eternal is available on PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia
