Three years after the domestic violence charges against him by his ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has made a comeback on the matter.
The matter between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard doesn’t seem to get settled anytime soon. The couple who got married in a lavish affair in 2015 and separated in January 2017. Heard filed for a divorce in May 2016 due to irreconcilable reasons and further asking for a domestic violence restraining order a week later.
The ugly legal battle
The divorce saga had attracted a lot of media attention worldwide, and Johnny faced severe backlash over the domestic abuse accusations. In her divorce document, Heard had alleged that Depp had been physically, emotionally and verbally towards her in his inebriated state or whenever she would disagree with him. The photos of her bruised face along with a video, where Depp was seen throwing away a wine bottle and glass in anger, were circulated. The divorce was officially granted in 2017 with a $7 million settlement and division of personal assets.
Now, 2.5 years after the divorce, the issue been raked again, and it is Johnny Depp this time. He refuted all the charges of violence against the “Never Back Down” actress during the proceedings. He claimed that the actress continues to bring media attention to get some extra mileage for her career.
Defamation Suit
Despite the divorce, the two never really let the matter bites the dust; they kept talking about it time and again. Johnny while talking to British GQ in October 2018 had said: “The thing that hurt me is being presented as something that you’re really as far away from as you could possibly get, you know?”
In December 2018, Amber again raised the issue when she wrote op-ed for The Washington Post where she detailed about her abusive years without naming Depp.
January 2019 brought a new turn in the saga, when Depp’s attorney talked about filing a partial list of evidence to dismiss the false allegations against him, to E! News. Two months later, the case was fuelled further when Johnny filed a defamation suit for $50 million against Heard for hampering her image and causing him losses. Besides, Pirates of the Caribbean star accused Heard of abusing him during their marriage.
All the claims of Depp were rejected by Heard’s attorney stating that since the divorce he has been harassing Ms. Heard publicly and attempting to gaslight the world by refuting the accusations.
Fresh shreds of evidence
In the wake of new developments, Johnny alleged that Amber had painted on bruises, and she was the one who abused him causing serious bodily injuries, claims rejected by her attorneys. A new witness who is a close associate of Heard, Laura Divenere, supporting Depp said that she was hired as an interior-designer by the actress and was in close contact with her during the timeline she mentioned of domestic violence. She never saw Amber being injured, nor did the couple ever show any kind of hostility or any talks of any kind of violence against the actress was brought up. She added that however, she had witnessed Amber Heard being verbally abusive towards her assistant several times.
The statement from Laura Diverene has compelled the people to think if Johnny Depp was right all along. Now, as of July 2019, Depp’s team has plans to subpoena James Franco over surveillance footage of the elevator where the Aquaman actress had walked into after an alleged fight with the Sweeney Todd actor.
The matter that began in 2016 is only looking to be getting bigger. Now, only time will tell if Amber Heard abused her rights and framed the actor, as alleged by Depp, or if the celebrated actor has indeed been abusing the actress all along, as claimed by her. We will keep all our readers updated.
