Sony has officially pushed the Tom Hardy-starrer back by three months
Sony has officially delayed Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s release to September 2021. Following the Spider-Man reboot starring Tom Holland and successfully tying it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony is looking to build a more extensive franchise. The first film starring Tom Hardy was a global hit and made over $850 million, even though the reviews were mostly mixed.
Venom‘s success inspired Sony to make more Spider-Man villain spinoffs, but the most anticipated title of them all is Venom 2. The sequel was announced in the first movie’s post-credit scene, where Woody Harrelson appeared as Cletus Kasady, who has the symbiote Carnage within him.
Adjusting dates
The delay for Venom: Let There Be Carnage was something that the fans expected. Universal Pictures announced earlier this month that they were delaying the release of F9 to June 25, making everyone think that Venom would be the next big title to get delayed. Even though the first movie was a hit, Sony is taking no risks as the second one would be a on a larger scale with a more popular villain. Theatres are reopening, so it will be wise for the production companies to wait and see if they continue to grow.
Still on track
Even though the movie got delayed, it’s release order didn’t get affected. Venom 2 is still hitting theatres before Spider-Man: No Way Home, making some believe that Tom Holland will cameo in the movie. It’s also releasing before Jared Leto-starrer Morbius. What we can expect is the first teaser and how director Andy Serkis handled the fight between Venom and Carnage.
