Can we expect to see the Korean horror series make its third comeback?
Kingdom is a Netflix original South Korean horror series created by Kim Eun-hee. The show is based on the book Land of the Gods, also written by Kim Eun-hee. It’s first season was released in 2019 and quickly became one of the most watched non-English shows on the streaming service.

What lies in store for the series?
Kingdom Season 2 released on March 13 this year, and consisted of six episodes, similar to season one. But afterwards, we haven’t received any news from the executives on whether the show will be returning for a third season.

But even then, there’s hope that there’s more to come as the story is not over yet. Another ray of hope was that screenwriter Kim Eun-hee and director Park in-je had been recently interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter. When she was asked on the amount of story left to tell, she said: “Strangely enough, Kingdom is a series that gives me more energy the more I write it. The cast and crew all have great chemistry, and there’s so much more to tell. If viewers allow, I would love to see it develop even up to season 10.”

Now that’s exactly what the viewers wanted to hear. Ten seasons might seem ambitious, but many shows have run that far, so it’s not impossible to believe. Kim Eun-hee spoke about what we can expect if they plan to make a third season; she said that season one told the story of hunger, and season two discussed blood. She wants the third season to be about resentment. In season two, the concept of ‘temperature’ was discussed, and in case the story progresses northwards, a new ecosystem would be brought to attention.
