The renewal of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was first announced in September, with no further details. However, the latest bit of news came on Disney+ Day, and the official reveal on Twitter was accompanied with a snowflake emoji. Fans are speculating that it can have something to do with a Frozen musical.
The lead cast including Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, and Julia Lester, are expected to return. Filming is believed to shift from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, and will revolved around summer break. The characters will be spending time at a sleepaway camp, which can take up an entire episode or two of the new season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The return of a character
Olivia Rodrigo, who plays Nini Roberts in the mockumentary has had her personal music career really pick up in recent years. The 18-year-old had remarked that it was getting difficult to manage her music career with acting commitments. In the series, Nini is eyeing for a music career herself, very like what Rodrigo is doing.
In the penultimate episode of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Jordan Fisher makes a guest appearance as Jamie, the older brother of Gina (Sofia Wylie). Jamie is a reputed music producer, and Gina asks Nini to meet up with him. Later we see Nini call him to discuss her career.
This can be a good way to make Rodrigo move on from being a regular cast to a recurring guest.
